Here are a few tips to help you prepare for your move. Please also check our FAQ page for more information or call Mark at 204-781-4100.
Be sure to fully charge your cell phone before the movers arrive. Notify the telephone company to disconnect your landline phone one day later than your moving day.
Pack 1 box for your first night and mark it with a large X. Ask the driver to load it last so it will be the first item off the moving van. Here is a list of things we recommend that you pack in this box:
You should check your homeowners/content insurance policy as some policies cover property in transit.
If your property is very valuable, consider purchasing short-term insurance that covers the move. Unlike most property insurance, valuation does not automatically pay for any damage. It must be clearly shown that the mover was responsible for the damage. There is a deductible on all moves, payable by the customer of $500.00. If you require better insurance, you can purchase it for $50.00. This will lower your deductible to $300.00, payable by the customer.
Items in boxes, not packed by the mover, are not covered.
The mover is only responsible for any electronic item that does not function after the move, if there is clear evidence that the item was dropped or mishandled during the move, and the deductible is payable by the customer.
The customer has 3 days after the move to file an initial claim against the mover. The customer is legally responsible for paying for the move, even when claiming damages.
Movement of dangerous goods: Government Regulations dictate that certain items cannot be transported by Popeye’s Movers (or any Van Line).
Special Regulations Governing the Shipment of Firearms
We are not permitted to pack or transport revolvers or restricted weapons of any kind unless you have written permission from the RCMP.
You must have documented evidence from the RCMP that the restricted weapon (s) are in fact registered with the authorities (must show make, model and serial numbers), and also have written permission to ship only from the origin residence to the new destination.
Ask Mark (204-781-4100) for more information including special packing and transportation procedures surrounding these goods.
